For years, ventilation ran at one speed, all day, every day, whether the house was full or empty, whether someone was in the shower or asleep. Demand-controlled ventilation (DCV) changes that: sensors keep measuring the air, and the system ventilates only where it is needed, when it is needed, and for as long as it is needed.
What is demand-controlled ventilation?
- Fresh air enters the living rooms and bedrooms through wall or window vents.
- A quiet central fan extracts humid, stale air from the kitchen, bathrooms, toilet and utility.
- Sensors measure humidity and CO₂. While the air is good, the fan runs at a strict minimum, so you lose very little heat.
- When a shower starts or a room fills with people, extraction rises straight away, then drops back.
Central or local detection
Central detection: sensors inside the ventilation unit read the extracted air. Simple and affordable: DucoBox Reno and DucoBox Silent.
Local detection: sensors and control valves for each room or zone, so every room is ventilated on its own needs: DucoBox Focus.
Why it matters
- Less heat lost: air you paid to heat is only extracted when it actually needs replacing.
- Quieter: the fan spends most of its time at low speed.
- Healthier: moisture and CO₂ are removed as soon as they rise, which means less condensation and mould.
DucoBox Focus: true zonal DCV
Most extract systems pull air from every room at once, including rooms where the air is already fresh. The DucoBox Focus has control valves built into the box: each duct is a zone with its own CO₂ or humidity control, so air is taken only from the rooms that need it.
